Danish PGI cheeses

Danablu, Esrom, Danbo and Havarti are the four Danish cheeses recognised for PGI.

The PGI (Protected Geographical Indications) mark means that Danablu, Esrom, Danbo and Havarti may only be produced in Denmark using Danish milk, and only at approved dairies that are regularly inspected to ensure that they follow the specific production guidelines.

  • Producers of Danablu: Arla Foods, Høgelund Dairy; Bornholm Cooperative Dairy / St. Clement; Mammen Dairies, Drøsbro Dairy.
  • Producers of Esrom: Thise Dairy; Arla Foods, Nr. Vium Dairy.
  • Producers of Danbo: Arla Foods, Taulov Dairy and Tistrup Dairy; Nørup Dairy; Mammen Dairy; Them Dairy; Thise Dairy / Dybbækdal Dairy; Asaa Dairy; Jernved Dairy.
  • Producers of Havarti: Arla Foods, Taulov Dairy and Nr. Vium Dairy; Nørup Dairy; Mammen Dairy; Grøndal Dairy; Them Dairy; Jernved Dairy; Bornholm Cooperative Dairy / St. Clement.
